NCERT sets up expert panel amid controversy over Rajput, Ahom, and Paika history in ‘new textbooks’

Facing criticism over alleged factual errors and omissions in newly revised school textbooks, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has constituted a committee of senior experts on Thursday (August 7) to review the feedback and make recommendations. The panel, led by Professor Ranjana Arora, head of NCERT’s Department of Curriculum Studies and Development, will examine concerns raised about the representation of various regional histories, including that of the Rajputs, Ahoms, and Paikas.

    The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday won 38 of the 44 seats in the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation elections, securing 56.64 per cent of the vote. The Congress won five seats with a vote share of 37.05 per cent, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to win a single seat, polling 4.38 per cent of the votes. Others secured one seat with a vote share of 1.92 per cent.

    Delhi govt makes Aadhaar mandatory for consumers to avail benefits of power subsidy scheme

    In a major development, the Delhi government on Tuesday made Aadhaar identification mandatory for consumers to avail the benefits of its power subsidy scheme amid a steady rise in beneficiaries and a burgeoning power subsidy bill borne by the exchequer. As per the official figures, by February 2026, the Delhi government’s allocation for power subsidy reached Rs 4,037.63 crore and for the current financial year (2026-27), the government has budgeted Rs 3,500 crore for this purpose.
