Centre has appreciated Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay over his government’s decision to reduce Value Added Tax (VAT) on aviation turbine fuel (ATF). Tamil Nadu reduced the rate from 29 per cent to 16 per cent at Chennai and one per cent at all airports in the state. In a gazette notification, the government said that the reduction of VAT on ATF will come into effect on the midnight of October 31/ November 1 and shall remain in force for a year upto the midnight of October 31, 2027.
New Zealand looked to have bounced back in the second T20I at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch, but India kept it late as a dramatic knock from Tilak Varma helped India chase 181 runs in the final over of the match. The conditions weren’t tailor-made for the batters to play an aggressive brand of cricket and that put India on the back foot early on, but the gamble of playing an extra batter finally worked as India won the match to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya staged a protest on Saturday regarding a mosque located near Terminal 2 (T2) of the Mumbai International Airport. Some BJP workers arrived at the protest site carrying hammers. The police took Kirit Somaiya and the BJP workers into custody. Kirit Somaiya claimed that the mosque is illegal and that the truth is being misrepresented in this matter. He stated that no one has approached the court, and all relevant authorities—including the MMRDA—have declared the structure illegal. Somaiya asserted that action will be taken against the mosque and that it will be demolished.
