The India vs Australia series was supposed to be about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s comeback to international cricket after seven months. But the hosts have spoiled the party in just two matches and sealed the series in Adelaide as Shubman Gill has conceded his debut ODI series as captain with a game to go. Australia chased down 265 runs in the second ODI in Adelaide and even though they lost eight wickets, the hosts always seemed to be in control of the run-chase. OPINION | Iran’s Hijab Law: Video exposes double standards

In Iran, the wearing of hijab by women in public spaces is mandatory. According to the “Chastity and Hijab” bill enacted in 2023, women who defy dress codes risk long prison sentences, steep fines, and even death sentence for repeated violations. The regime uses drones, surveillance apps and licensed informants to monitor what women wear in public. Only recently, the Iranian regime announced it would deploy 80,000 personnel to enforce dress codes because there has been a spike in the number of women appearing in public without hijab. OPINION | Gangs of London streets: Welcome action by police

In a major crackdown against mobile phone snatchers and shoplifters, the London Metropolitan Police arrested 46 people after a two-week-long operation. They were arrested for phone snatching and for buying and smuggling out stolen phones. Nearly 40,000 stolen phones were smuggled out from the United Kingdom to China in the last one year. Nearly 28 properties across London and Hertfordshire were searched during the crackdown against phone snatchers and smugglers.  London Mayor Sadiq Khan described this as “the largest operation of its kind in the history of the UK”. He said, “it was humbling to see first-hand how the Met are going after the leaders of international smuggling gangs as well as street robbers and snatchers fuelling this industrial-scale crime.” In my prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’ on India TV last night, we showed videos of phone snatchers and police nabbing the criminals.

Mumbai building collapse: Seven injured as portion of old Madanpura structure caves-in

A portion of the old Salvation Army Welfare Association building in Mumbai’s Madanpura locality collapsed on Wednesday (October 22), injuring seven people. The incident occurred around 12:30 pm when the first-floor section of the ground-plus-one structure gave way suddenly, sending debris crashing to the floor below. According to civic officials, fire brigade units, local police, and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) ward staff reached the site within minutes to begin rescue and debris removal operations.
