Pilots’ body writes to PM Modi, pushes for Civil Aviation Authority to replace DGCA

Amid unprecedented growth in India’s aviation sector, the Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to establish an autonomous, statutory Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), replacing the DGCA. In a detailed proposal addressed to PM Modi, FIP President Capt CS Randhawa stressed that India, now the third-largest domestic aviation market in the world, remains an outlier among major regional economies by continuing to rely on the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), an attached office of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

    The central government has decided to extend the tenure of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director Rahul Navin by one year, extending his working period till August 2027. According to an order issued on August 8, 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the extension of Rahul Navin, IRS (IT:93074), for one year beyond August 13, 2026, until August 13, 2027. The extension allows him to continue in service beyond his scheduled superannuation date of July 31, 2027. It states that his tenure will continue until August 13, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
