Backlash forces Vijay’s TVK government to withdraw RTI exemption for Law and Order department

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government in Tamil Nadu on Sunday made a U-turn and revoked an earlier order that exempted the Public (Law and Order) Department from the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The development comes hours after the opposition and TVK’s alliance partners criticised the move, asking the state government to reconsider it.

    Rejinagar Bypoll Result 2026: BJP’s Shankharavh Sarkar wins Muslim-majority seat by over 75,000 votes

    The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Shankharavh Sarkar on Friday (October 9) won the Rejinagar Assembly bypoll in West Bengal, defeating Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) candidate Golam Nabi Azad alias Robin by 75,816 votes. Sarkar secured 1,29,914 votes, accounting for 63.14 per cent of the votes polled, while Azad received 54,098 votes (26.29 per cent).
