An Indian pilot has emerged at the centre of a dramatic mid-air incident after his actions helped prevent a possible disaster aboard a Flydubai flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Captain Smit Machchhar, who was stabbed by his co-pilot during the flight, managed to open the cockpit door despite suffering serious injuries. His action allowed passengers and crew members to enter the cockpit and overpower the attacker.
The results for Tamil Nadu’s Dharapuram will be announced on Friday, October 9, the counting of votes will begin at 8 am with postal ballots followed by EVMs. The Dharapuram assembly constituency went to poll on October 6, a total of 80.30 per cent votes recorded. A total of 22 candidates contested for Dharapuram assembly seat. The bypoll in Dharapuram was necessitated following the resignation of AIADMK MLA P Satyabama, who later joined the ruling TVK. In the last assembly election, AIADMK’s P. Sathyabama bagged the seat with 48.56 per cent of the total votes, while TVK’s Gowri Chitra obtained 23.23 per cent votes.

Counting of votes for the Thattanchavady Assembly constituency bypoll in Puducherry will begin at 8 am today, with the results expected to be declared later in the day. The bypoll recorded a voter turnout of 80.81 per cent when polling concluded at 6 pm on Tuesday across 31 polling stations. The turnout was lower than the 87.10 per cent recorded in the constituency during the last Assembly election, while polling passed off peacefully.
