West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing “surprise and shock” over the Centre’s unilateral appointment of a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Pankaj Kumar Singh, as interlocutor on issues concerning Gorkhas in Darjeeling Hills, Terai, and Dooars. She urged the Prime Minister to withdraw the decision, stating that the state government had not been consulted on the matter.
The Congress in Haryana on Thursday (April 16) suspended five of its MLAs from the party’s primary membership with immediate effect over alleged cross-voting during last month’s Rajya Sabha elections. The party’s Haryana unit Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC), headed by former MP Dharampal Malik, recommended the suspension of MLAs Mohammad Ilyas (Punahana), Mohammad Israil (Hathin), Renu Bala (Sadhaura), Shalley Chaudhary (Naraingarh), and Jarnail Singh (Ratia).

The Supreme Court on Thursday issued significant directives while uploading its order regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) case in West Bengal. Exercising its special powers under Article 142 of the Constitution, the Supreme Court directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to implement the decisions rendered by the Appellate Tribunal.
