A sudden and massive flood swept through central Nepal on Wednesday, killing 16 people so far and causing widespread destruction in settlements along the river. The flooding also damaged at least a dozen hydropower projects, officials said. The flood surged through the Bhote Koshi River at around 9 am local time, with the waters reportedly coming from the Tibet side. The disaster affected Rasuwa and Dhading districts, which border Tibet, as well as Nuwakot district, southwest of Kathmandu.
TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee’s private security personnel, supporters and party leaders allegedly clashed with police and Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) officials on Thursday as they tried to prevent them from entering the Lok Sabha MP’s office on Camac Street and removing an ‘unauthorised’ billboard. The billboard, featuring TMC signage, had been installed on an iron structure facing the road on the building’s top floor. KMC officials eventually dismantled it after police entered the office.
