Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday demanded the immediate rollback of the government’s new UPI framework, which introduces a 0.4 per cent Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on specified merchant transactions above Rs 2,000.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday won 38 of the 44 seats in the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation elections, securing 56.64 per cent of the vote. The Congress won five seats with a vote share of 37.05 per cent, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to win a single seat, polling 4.38 per cent of the votes. Others secured one seat with a vote share of 1.92 per cent.

In a major development, the Delhi government on Tuesday made Aadhaar identification mandatory for consumers to avail the benefits of its power subsidy scheme amid a steady rise in beneficiaries and a burgeoning power subsidy bill borne by the exchequer. As per the official figures, by February 2026, the Delhi government’s allocation for power subsidy reached Rs 4,037.63 crore and for the current financial year (2026-27), the government has budgeted Rs 3,500 crore for this purpose.
