On July 16, Mamata Banerjee led a padyatra in Kolkata to allege that Bengali-speaking people from her state are being forcibly kept in detention camps in BJP-ruled states by describing them as Bangaldeshis. She alleged that the names of more than 32 lakh voters have been struck off from the electoral lists in Bihar. She warned people that EC may carry out a Bihar-type electoral revision exercise in West Bengal too.

Read moreIn what comes as good news for commuters, the government is working on providing relief from the toll levied on the National Highway (NH). According to a report, the Ministry of Road Transport has proposed to reduce the toll by half while expanding the 10-meter-wide, two-lane national highway into a four-lane highway. It means that there will be a 50 per cent discount on the current toll. The ministry has come up with this proposal because during construction work on highways, passengers face difficulty and don’t get better service due to a decrease in the width of the NH during construction. Currently, 60 per cent of the normal toll is charged on such two-lane NHs, even if there is no construction work being done on them.

These advanced engines are being delivered to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), which is tasked with integrating them into the LCA Mark 1A jets. According to defence officials, HAL is set to receive 12 more GE-404 engines by March 2026. These engines will power the LCA Mark 1A fighter jets. Notably, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has already placed firm orders for 83 LCA Mark 1A aircraft. In addition, a proposal to procure 97 more jets is now in an advanced stage of processing, having already secured clearance from the Ministry of Defence.
