Earthquake of 6.3 magnitude hits Mexico, tremors felt across region
An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck the southern Mexican state of Guerrero on Friday, the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) said. The quake was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), GFZ said. However, there was no damage in Guerrero reported immediately, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum said on X, after speaking with the state’s governor. She stated that no damage had been reported in the capital, Mexico City.

BMC Polls: Congress-VBA alliance faces major setback as 16 Mumbai seats lack suitable candidates
The Congress-led alliance has hit a major roadblock ahead of the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections in Mumbai. The Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), led by Prakash Ambedkar, has failed to finalise candidates for 16 of the seats allocated to it in the city. Sources reveal that under the seat-sharing arrangement with the Congress, the VBA was allotted a total of 62 seats in Mumbai. However, a shortage of suitable candidates and incomplete documentation of several potential nominees prevented the VBA from filing nominations on 16 of those seats.

With the Magh Mela season beginning, Uttar Pradesh Roadways has announced a major relief for pilgrims travelling to Prayagraj. Magh Mela 2026 is going to begin from January 3. The transport department has deployed additional buses on the Prayagraj-Ayodhya route to ensure smooth travel for devotees heading for ritual baths as well as for those planning to visit Ayodhya afterwards. According to Vimal Rajan, Regional Manager of the Ayodhya Transport Corporation, a total of 270 buses have been pressed into service between the two cities. Several of these buses will operate up to Gonda, which will further improve connectivity for those arriving in Prayagraj for the Magh Mela.

Narrow escape for UP minister Sanjay Nishad after his car meets with accident trying to save dog
Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Sanjay Nishad had a close escape on Thursday when his vehicle met with an accident on Fatehabad Road while he was travelling to Agra. The incident created a brief moment of panic for the convoy but ended without injuries. Explaining what happened, the Nishad Party chief said, “A dog suddenly came in front of the vehicle. As soon as the brakes were applied to save the dog, another car hit us from behind.” The minister added that the impact damaged the rear side of the vehicle.
