The knowledge of conversational Marathi has been made mandatory for commercial passenger vehicle drivers in Maharashtra by the state government to ensure better communication with passengers. An inspection drive to enforce this rule started across the state on Thursday. Drivers found lacking adequate knowledge of conversational Marathi during inspections will be issued a notice and required to learn the language within one month. Failure to learn Marathi within the stipulated period will result in the suspension of the driver’s badge for three months.

Supreme Court sets up high-powered committee to investigate police action against student protesters
The Supreme Court on Thursday constituted a High-Power Inquiry Committee (HPEC) to investigate the actions of police and security forces during student protests held at Jantar Mantar and other parts of the country. The apex court stated that an independent and impartial inquiry is necessary regarding allegations of excessive use of force against protesters. The five-member High-Powered Enquiry Committee (HPEC), headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice R. Fake cancer drug interstate racket busted in Delhi; 17 arrested, drugs worth Rs 9 crore seized
Delhi Police Crime Branch’s Interstate Cell has busted an interstate syndicate involved in the sale of counterfeit and illegally diverted expensive cancer medicines, arresting 17 people so far and recovering drugs and other material worth around Rs 9 crore. The operation has uncovered a supply network spread across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other states. Police have also recovered around Rs 50 lakh in cash from locations linked to the syndicate.
