OPINION | Monsoon session washout: It’s the opposition’s loss
The monsoon session of Parliament was a washout. More than 80 per cent of its time was wasted by the opposition. Nearly Rs 142 crore from the public exchequer went to waste. The government got its legislative business done sans any debate. Both Houses were supposed to work for 114 hours. In Lok Sabha, more than 96 hours were wasted due to pandemonium, while in Rajya Sabha, 77 hours were wasted. It was all because of consistent protests by Opposition members in both Houses.

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has withdrawn its earlier restriction on the enrolment of 2026 graduates of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, offering major relief to students caught up in a controversy surrounding an alleged campaign linked to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant’s proposed participation in the university’s convocation. In a fresh communication issued on Thursday, the BCI said all NALSAR students graduating in 2026 would be free to enrol with the State Bar Council of their choice. The decision followed deliberations by the BCI Council and consideration of a report indicating that the overwhelming majority of the graduating students were not involved in, or did not intend to participate in, any move aimed at showing disrespect.

UK records hottest day of year as temperature hits 38.1 degrees Celsius, why Britain faces heatwave?
Oin a significant development, the UK recorded its hottest day of the year on Thursday as temperature has hit 38.1 degrees Celsius (100.6 degrees Fahrenheit) in west London, the national weather service said, as an intense stretch of hot weather continued to grip Europe. Apart from this, the Met Office stated that the temperature surpassed this year’s previous high of 38 C (100.4 F), recorded on June 28. The weather department also remained below the UK’s August record of 38.5 C (101.3 F), set in 2003.

Plea filed in Jharkhand HC seeking other exams conducted by JPSC under probe after paper leak incident
The controversy surrounding the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination has now reached the Jharkhand High Court. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was on Thursday filed in the high court seeking to bring other examinations conducted by JPSC and JSSC through TDPL under the ambit of the investigation. Petitioner Basant Prasad has leveled serious allegations regarding large-scale irregularities, rigging, and the sale of posts in exchange for money during these examinations.
